The picturesque fishing port is the regional centre and largest township on Tasmania’s East Coast.  This popular resort, located 177 km east of Launceston, hugs the shoreline of the 35 km of sheltered waters in Georges Bay. Established as a whaling station in the 1830s, it is now regarded as Tasmania’s game fishing capital. It is the state's second fishing port and the wharf area bustles with boats unloading catches of deep sea fish and lobster.

The renowned Bay of Fires is one of the world’s great beaches.
In fact it’s a string of beaches stretching 35 km north from Binalong Bay and it is well worth experiencing from both ends. You should also visit the mountainous rainforest of the Weldborough Pass and the beautiful St Columba Falls. They are a spectacular 90 metres high, with the best view being at the base of the waterfalls, just 10 minutes walking distance from the carpark.

St Helens is a magnet to visitors from all over the world who come to enjoy the region's natural attractions and Tasmania’s mildest climate.
Many stay for a number of days using St Helens as a base for “there and back” short day trips to the surrounding beaches, rocky points, waterways and forests, as well as the many charming smaller townships, all within close proximity of this regional hub.

The St Helens township provides for the wants and needs of its many visitors.
The large resident population ensures that most services and facilities are provided in and around the busy retail centre, while accommodation ranges from basic camping through to cabins, B&Bs and resort-style venues.
